Kaltenbronn Highland Moor Region
Information in brief
- Largest natural highland moor region in Germany
- Location: On the plateau between Gernsbach and Bad Wildbad, northern Black Forest
- Hohlohturm viewing tower
Description
The highland moors in the Kaltenbronn area and the Hohlohsee, Wildsee and Hornsee moor lakes have been a conservation area for more than 60 years. High precipitation and water-impermeable rock formations provided the conditions for the development of this unique landscape.
There are a number of parking areas for hikers along the road (Gernsbach - Hilpertsau - Bad Wildbad and Enzklösterle). From there, well sign-posted circular walks from a length of 3 km, in some cases on paths of wooden planks, lead through the moorland to the lakes and the Hohlohturm viewing tower. The Murgtal-Enztal Mountainbike Arena was opened in 2006 and also offers a large number of routes in the area around Kaltenbronn. In winter, extensive cross-country skiing courses and 2 ski-lifts attract winter sport enthusiasts.
