Description
The Taubergießen conservation area is located directly on the Rhine between Freiburg and Offenburg near the communities of Kappel-Grafenhausen, Rust and Rheinhausen. The area is crisscrossed by watercourses, which branch out in all directions, and old parts of the Rhine. Primeval wetland forests are home to a large number of species of plants and animals which are threatened by extinction, e.g. rare orchids, amphibians, dragonflies, butterflies and birds.
The Taubergießen can be explored on a large number of sign-posted hiking trails, which are described in detail on information panels at the parking areas for hikers. Trips through the conservation area on old fishing boats are offered at various locations and are not only popular but highly enjoyable.
