Description
The district town of Offenburg (Ortenau district) is situated on the edge of the Central Black Forest, just 20 km southeast of Strasbourg and the French border. The districts of Fessenbach, Rammersweier, and Zell-Weierbach are well-known wine-growing villages in the Ortenau region.
Offenburg’s historic old town is characterized by Baroque facades, central squares, and the Salmen—a cultural landmark that offers insight into the region's history of democracy. In the immediately adjacent districts of Fessenbach and Zell-Weierbach, visitors can find numerous hiking trails through the vineyards, scenic viewpoints, and wineries that offer guided tours and tastings. The city’s leisure offerings are further complemented by local recreation areas such as Lake Gifiz and the modern Stegermattbad swimming complex.
