Key Facts

Description

The Three Lakes Railway (*Dreiseenbahn*) runs through the High Black Forest from Titisee via Feldberg-Bärental and past the Windgfällweiher lake—a route that gives the line its name. In addition to regular scheduled services, the IG 3-Seenbahn association operates special excursions using historic trains powered by steam, diesel, and electric locomotives.

The special trains start and end at Titisee station and the Schluchsee-Seebrugg museum station; the IG 3-Seenbahn association was able to acquire the latter's track facilities from the railway operator. The members' goal is to restore the station facilities—which remain largely in their original condition—thereby preserving an entire station complex in the style of the 1950s. This is unique in Baden-Württemberg.

Long-term plans include establishing an open-air museum at Seebrugg station dedicated to the social, transport, economic, and technological history of the 1945–1965 period. A historic station festival has already been held there every mid-August since 2010. For one weekend, time is turned back 65 years; features include historic uniforms, trucks and horse-drawn wagons delivering their loads, and the loading and shunting of various freight cars using a shunting locomotive.
