Description
The former Benedictine monastery in Alpirsbach—dating back over 900 years and featuring an imposing abbey church—was built in the 11th century and consecrated on January 16, 1095, by Bishop Gebhard III of Constance. It serves as the landmark of the town of Alpirsbach; the complex was built in the Romanesque style, while the cloister features Gothic architecture.
Visitors enter the monastery museum—which displays artifacts from the history of the monastery and its school, among other items—as well as the abbey church, the cloister, and other monastic buildings, via the Alpirsbach Monastery Information Center.
