St. Eulogius Ride in Lenzkirch
The St. Eulogi-Ritt (St. Eulogius Ride) in Lenzkirch (date: 25th June or the Sunday before) is an equestrian procession in honour of St. Eligius, the patron saint of horses, who is also known as Eulogius. The festive day begins at 5.00 am with the reveille by the Lenzkirch town band. At 8.30 am the cavalcade moves from the town to the pilgrimage chapel of St. Eulogius, where a solemn religious service takes place from 9.00 am. The actual St. Eulogius Ride from the chapel back to the town starts afterwards. More than 200 horses take part in the procession, in addition to several traditional costume groups and music. A grand annual fair is held in Lenzkirch after the procession, in which all the usual articles are offered for sale at a large number of stalls, and, needless to say, refreshments are also available.
