Description

The Schwarzenbach Reservoir is located in a side valley of the Murg Valley in the Northern Black Forest and was built for the purpose of generating and storing electricity. The reservoir is also a popular destination in the Black Forest, offering opportunities for swimming, windsurfing, and boating; a boat rental service is available near the dam wall.

Surrounded by forest, the lake serves as an excellent starting point for hikes or mountain bike tours. The Black Forest National Park lies to the south of the lake.

You can reach the Schwarzenbach Reservoir from Forbach via Raumünzach, or by turning off the Black Forest High Road (Schwarzwaldhochstraße) at the former "Kurhaus Sand" towards Herrenwies and Forbach. Signposts pointing to the reservoir are provided along both routes.

Please note: The water was drained in the spring of 2026 for maintenance work (see report: Schwarzenbach Reservoir without water, in German). The work is scheduled to continue until October, so no water sports will be possible in the summer of 2026.
